Weavers sought for OHA resources directory

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs is seeking your kōkua in obtaining information on weavers of lau hala, lau niu, makaloa, 'ie'ie, etc. as well as fiber arts like kapa making, and those that utilize 'aha (sennit), hau and olonā. Information submitted on a voluntary basis will be eompiled and presented in a limited edition directory, "Nā Lima Mikioi: Directory of Weavers and Fiber Artists," to be published this summer. Copies will be made available to ah directory participants, public libraries, Hawaiian organizations and cultural groups. Call OHA's Culture Office at 594-1930 to receive a participant's survey. All information must be received by March 31, 1997 for inclusion. To date, OHA's Culture Office has published two directories whieh have been useful resources to our community: "Ola Nā Iwi: Directory of Hawaiian Artists and Cultural Resources" and "Kū Mai Ka Po'e Hula: Directory of Hula Resources." Editor's note: this is to correct a notice in the February 1997 Ka Wai Ola o OHA whieh incorrectly stated that OHA is planning its second lauhala conference in Kona later this year. Mrs. Elizabeth Ako Lee sponsored "Ka Ulu Lauhala o Kona" in 1996, and is planning another weavers' conference later this spring. OHA provided support to last year's conference, but this is not an OHA program.
