OHA IN THE COMMUNITY

BUILDING VOTER ENGAGEMENT Last eleehon, OHA had a very successful voter registration. This year, the agency focused on getting registered voters to vote, spreading the message through radio ads, social media and phone banking. 0HA's Outreach Program undertook a host of efforts to encourage voting, including placing 1 00 signs proudly proclaiming "This 'Ohana Votes" in Wai'anae neighborhoods. In October, OHA and partner Kanu Hawai'i launched the 201 4 Candidate Game, an online tool that gives voters a new way of determining whieh candidates best align with their views. In its first three weeks, the game attracted more than 1 5,000 players. Building on that, 0HA and the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs planned to co-host an 0HA trustee candidate forum, in Waikoloa, at the association's annual convention in 0ctober. 0HA also sponsored the efforts of No Vote No Grumble, including a gubernatorial candidate's forum at YWCA Laniākea's Fuller Hall. WELCOMING VISITORS FROM AMERICAN SAMOA At the request of Amehean Samoa Gov. Lolo Letalu Matalasi Molinga, a delegation traveled to Hawai'i to meet with 0HA and several Samoan community leaders in early 0ctober. In the U.S. territory, gubernatorial vetoes trigger U.S. lnterior Department involvement, and Molinga hopes to streamline the process to maintain all decision-making in the territory. Delegates sought to spread awareness in the Samoan community here, and to gain from 0HA a better understanding of the D0l and Congress and how to strengthen their relationship with the federal bodies. Pictured from left are: Fofo losefa Fiti Sunia, the territory's first delegate to Congress; 0HA CE0 Kamana'opono Crabbe; Afimutasi Gus Hanneman, 0ffice of Amehean Samoa Affairs director; Edwin L.
