"We Are Family" ON TARGET

A word from the director — Heather Haunani Giugni: ONTARGET was a television concept developed many years ago to help E assist in the improvement of health in our Hawaiian community. Producer/writer Esther Figueroa and 1 wanted to bring a different approach in the production of a health series. We set out to create a series that was fun, eolorful, loeal and informative. Most importantly, it was television about ourselves as a community - what we suffer from, what we enjoy, what makes us stress and what makes us laugh. We tried to steer away from the usual medical driven program whieh typically includes people and experiences unfamiliar to our daily lives. So we brought in Karen Keawehawai'i, Rell Sunn, Sam Kapu, Jr. and the rest of the gang to create the ON TARGET 'ohana. The cast made the show real and fun! We also aimed to create an "interactive series" that would bring communities together in a healthy way. In doing so, we attempted to get the word out through a variety of other media channels that included Ka Wai Ola O OHA , HMSA's lsland Scene magazine, ON TARGET newsletters (available at all Subways) and The Queens's Medical Center's in-house eahle system. It has been an exhausting but incredibly rewarding series. Esther and I are truly grateful to the sponsors of this series, the ON TARGET cast and crew, and the viewing audience. The Kūpuna Health program will be ON TARGET's last program of this series. Will there be more? Stay tuned. Meanwhile, ON TARGET's first series will have a life after broadcast. We are looking forward to seeing these tapes used in schools, libraries and within the health eommunity. Mālama pono! . ^
