2 - 159th Anniversary of Queen Lili'uokalani The trustees and staff of the Queen Lili'uokalani Children's Center, Lili'uokalani Trust will eommemorate the 1 59th anniversary of Queen Lili'uokalani's birth. A tribute wili be held on the grounds of the Royal Mausoleum at 10 a.m. Parking will be at the Tenri Cultural Center across from the Nu'uanu Cemetery on Nu'uanu Avenue. Call 572-9306 for more information. ?cff- 6 - Theatrefesf '97 Auditions Honolulu Theatre for Youth (HTY) will host auditions for Theatrefest '97 at University Lab School Auditorium/Theatre from noon to 5 p.m. The three one-act plays written and performed by young adults between the ages of 12 and 20, are "Long Live the King" by Clara Lacy of Mililani; "Angels in the Sand," by Dance Aoki of Kaimuki; and "One Tough Act to Foilow," by Rebecca Potter of 'Āina Haina. For more information or to schedule an audition, eall HTY at 839-9885. Scpt 6 Annual Queen's Serenade The annuai tribute will begin at 5 p.m. with a musical prelude by the Royal Hawaiian Program. At 5:30 p.m.. a program of chant, hula and song will feature the Royal Guard, Anthony Lenehanko, Hālau Hula Ho'oheno I Ka Ua Lililehua O Pālolo (Kumu Hula Harmony Brighter), the 'lolani Palaee 'Ukulele Band and the Ladies of Malanai. George Kahumoku Jr. and Willie K & Amy will also share their musical talents with special guest Aunty Genoa Keawe. The public is invited to bring beach mats and sandchairs to this offering by the Friends of 'lolani Palaee. 5cf<. 6 Extra Tours Added for Queen's Serenade The standard tour day (9 a.m. - 2: 1 5 p.m.) will be extended to 4: 1 5 p.m. to provide those planning to attend the Queen's Serenade opportunity to visit 'lolani Palaee. Guided tours are 45 minutes long and will be offered every 1 5 minutes from 9

a.m. to 4: 1 5 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12. No one under age 5 will be admitted. Seft. 27 - Hula and Culture Festival The Arts Cultural Festival is a day of sharing the art of hula with the people of Ka'ū and the entire island of Hawai'i in Wai'ōhinu, Ka'ū from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hula schools from around the island of Hawai'i will gather and share the art of hula as wellas raise funds. Keali'i Reichel and Uluwehi Guerrero will be the featured guests with their Hālau Ka Makani Wili Mākaha O Kau'aula. Admission is free. Proceeds from the dance-a-thon, to take plaee at the Dole Cannery Square Lanai Ballroom, will benefit Paeificare, a non-profit AIDS-service organization. Oet. 11 - School of Oeean and Earth Science and Technology Fourth Biennial Open House - The University of Hawai'i will host its fourth biennial SOEST open house on Mānoa campus. The free event features a diverse collection of hands-on demonstrations whieh highlight the oeean, earth and space sciences, as well as works in progress by faculty. students and staff. There will be interactive demonstrations, videos, poster presentations, laboratory tours, state-of-the-art computer animation, high-tech equipment displays and creative learning activities for all.
