An Afternoon Alarm.

At 12;ō5 this afternoon. an alann was rung in from Box 5. for an ineipienl blaze in a hnge eoal-pile next to Wilder k Co’s warebonse on the Esplanade. The alarm created the usual furort amongst tbe bnsiness portion of the community who feared that the scene of the fire might be located in the residence portions of the city, but the quick respon$e and rapid run of the patrol wagon and engines along Fort street to the water front eased their minds of tbe location. There was grave doubts in the miud of tba chief and bis men how to properly tackle the mounlain of eoal and a delay of many minutes eusned before water was played on the heated eoal throngh a line laid from No. 1 engine. The act of unconpling seveial hundred feet of hose, unnecessarily laid, and the delivery of water was aecomplished at 1.05 with a desired result. No damage.
