Discouraging.

The experience of Mr. Oomwell at today’s auction sale of ‘ Johnny Hayward,’ his well-known trotter is not very encouraging to horaemon or to those interested in improring Hawaiian stock and I who at cousiderable expense im-1 port horses from California. The trotter was withdr%wn from the sale as the highest bid was only $230, offered by Mr. S. G. Wilder. It may be a sign of hard times that no higher bid was made, and it is to be hoped, that it is so. We wboold hate to see horseracing and high-bred borses dis-1 I appear from Honolulu together with B*seball and other sports. " • •*
