BENJAMIN SEWALL TO SAIL NEXT WEEK

HER LEAK HAS BEEN LOCATED. Diver Alec Lyle Makes Last Trip to Bottom of Bay and Finds Hole Underneath Mainmast—Board of Surveys Orders Unnecessary. After five days of hard work underneath the waters of the harbor of Honolulu. Alec Kyle yesterday located the leak on the snip Benjamin Sew all. Captain Halsted is delighted, as he will not have to discharge cargo and will be able to proceed on his voyage to Australia at the beginning of next week. Yesterday morning Lyle resumed his diving operations and discovered the leak in the butt of the garboard streak, just under the mainmast, and on the starboard side. Th<? leak was a big one, for the water was flowing into the vessel at the rate of 5 Inches an hour. How it started is not known Captain Halster.d says that his vessel did not strain herself, and he cannot account for the presence of the leak only from the fact that the particular butt was overlooked when the vessel was last overhauled. About three davs will be sufficient to make all necessary repairs. A short while before Diver Lyle discovered the leak the board of survey. consisting of Captains Fuller. Brokaw and Amesbury. inspected the vessel and ordered that she be dis- ! charged. Inasmuch as the leak has now been located, it will not be necessary to follow the instructions of 'he board, as the repairs can be made i without unloading her.
