HACK HELD UP THREE TIMES AND TWO MEN CAPTURED BY POLICE

Hold ups are still the order of the night. Between 10 and !1 last night, hack 315 driven by Hackman Mak aeua. started with one passenger, named Manuel for the beach road. On one of the roads running parallel with that which passes the kerosene warehouse, the hack was suddenly heid up by three Porto Ricans. The place was totally devoid of houses, and in the darkness no danger was suspected till, suddenly, one man grabbed the horses head, another jumped for the driver, while still another peered Into the hack. Mounted Patrolmen Informed. The men on seeing the evidently changed their minds and left as suddenly as they came. The ! hack immediately returned towards town. On Oueen street mounted pa

tro’men Devauheile and Pearson were met and to them Makaena told the story. The patrolmen directed the backman to return fo the spot where he had been held up and told him they would follow. They allowed too great a distance between themseives and the hack, however, missed the street and only found the hack some time afterwards at the same place where they bad met it. The backman told them that be had been held tip again at the same spot, the robbers evidently taking the hack for another one, and that the robbers had repeated the performance of the first holdup. Both Robbers Caught. Devauchelie then secured his horse and. jumping into the hack, ordered

the driver to go back again while Pearson followed some distance behind. When the spot was reached, where the two previous hold-ups had taken place, the robbers duly appeared. There were only two this time, however, one of th- m holding the horse’s bead while the other, who he?d a knife, peered into the vehicle Devauchelie immediately jumped this man. who dropped his knife, wherenoon the patrolman clapped the handcuffs on him. The other robber was secured by Pearson, who had also reached the spot. He also was securely handcuffed, whereupon the pair were taken to the police station and locked up.
