Fresh figs cost about 5 cents a pound or even less at some places. Peculiarity on Potatoes. The price on vegetables has not ■varied any with the exception of potatoes. The price on red potatoes has risen to 3 and 3 l - cents a pound so that these potatoes, which are deemed by most people to be inferior to Burbanks, are now more expensive than Burbanks which sell from to 3 a pound. The reason for this unexp cted rise j in the price is that the red potatoes are more superior in k-- ping quality than tile Burbanks anil as a consequence th-y arc now in great demand in shipping circles, which, as the supply was somewhat short, caused the advance. Oranges are High. The price on imported navel and seedling oranges has ris n 5b cents a box. so that these oranges now sell at ft.so per box. This advance is due to the shortness of the supply on the r ast. which was caused by the large holiday d niand for these fruits. Mangoes have Ik gun to come in and can be picked up now and then at different stores at a price of about in cents a dozen. It is not the season for this fruit, however, and most of those a f present on the market c me from Xin»nn valley and are not of a very good quality.
