Hawaii's Governor Expected in Washington Within Few Weeks to , Have House Cleaning With His 1 Political Enemies and an Interceding T : -r.e is Expected. (Special Correspondenceā€™, WASHINGTON, D C.. Jan. 6.-The , . DnouiK-emeni is ma c upon what appears to be sufficient authority that Sam Parker, of Hawaii, who has just wed Mrs. Abigail K. Campbell, at San Francisco, is coming to Washington | soon to open a decisive campaign for > appointment as Governor of the Ter . i ritcry of Hawaii The new Mrs. Par- - ker is credited with being worth $4.-' s 000,000 If ft to her by her first hus , band. The announcement of the forth Ā» coming campaign indicates that there will be a lively time when Governor; ' Dole gets ready to send his resigns tion to Washington, as he is expected : tc do at some time before his presI eut term expires. The candidacy of . Judge Little, of Hawaii, for the Gov , trnorship. has lately assumed somewhat important proportions. Candidacy of Judge Little. Judge Little will have, according to present indications, the support ' ct a considerable number of impor tant men in Hawaii, and he is understood to Have been promised the support of not a few of the senators troni the Pacific Coast, most of whom hace interests in the islands. Par ker seems to be intending :o rest his claims for support on the fact that he can represent the natives in the administration of the affairs of the islands, and also upon some friends of his family in New England. Hhas relativ-. s in Massachusetts, and It is said that he is counting upon them to bring pressure to bear upon the New England Senators so that they will stand for him in the coming fight. Influence of Sewall. The uncertain quantity in the gov-! ernorship is the Hon. Harold Sewall. of Maine and Hawaii. It has been said pretty plainly from the White House within the last few weeks that , the President will consult Mr. S 'wail very freelv in making Hawaiian ap pointments. Those who are familiar with the ways of the President construe this to mean that the President will hereafter allow Mr. Sewall. within reasonable limitations, to dictate the politics of Hawaii. This has been none in the case of States. Tfv Pres ident has a political agent in the State of Indiana, for instance. He has one in the state of Washington, another in Michigan, and so it goes So the power cf Mr. Sewall in Hawaiian affairs is not to be wondered at. Dole Due in Washington.' The Interior Department psople de- : dare that the resignation of Dole is not close at hand, however, and this takes the edge off th* fight for his successor R-ports have recently : reached here that the Governor will be In Washington during the next few weeks, and that he comes to have a general house cleaning with his polit ical enemies. If he does come his visit will b* extremely interesting, for there are many men in Washing ton who are after the scalp of the Governor as hotly a? be is after the scalps of some other people.
