Livernash and Truxt n Beale of th" California Exclusion Commission, met the Presi dent to-day by appointment and briefly discuss* d tae Chinese exclusion question. “We are well pleased with our in tenrlew with th* President." said Gompers "He saui forcibly he would not favor I* gi-latlon that aimed at making it more difficult for the exempt class to enter this country. At the same time he favors the re- • nactment of the exclusion laws and also legislation to prevent Philippine Chinese from coming to the United States. He would not commit him self as to a bill. arpl. in fact. we did not discuss details. The President is stp ngly in favor of exclusion legislation.’* From other sources it is learned that the President set his visitors right on several points connected with exclusion. If they rightly construe his attitude they will not go too far in attempting innovations in • x.'lusiqn matters. The President will not indorse any attempt to couple Japanese with Chines* 1 exclusion, nor w*II he. it is believed, give any com fort to the Exclusion Commission in its amendment looking toward the extension of the exclusion laws to the Philippines.
