Dogood, go quietlyalong the uplands ofPuna, gō carefully, do noi do anything wrong, do not piek the akolea ferns lest God will heeome angry and elose the way. it is with these thoughts that we prepare ourse!ves for the new year. We have seen the passing of many of ourelders andhave witnessed many events affecting our community, some causing one to be against the other. We are sadden hy both, but we are not apprehensive to approach the future nor shall we let our perspectivesbe muddled. The articles coveredin this issue we believe reflect the optimism shared by others in the community, We should add that this is a private and independent newspaper whieh is not supported by public grants and funds. We are total!y supported by your subscriptions and advertising and we would like to keep it that way. We do not intend to be dependent upon thegovernmēnt, and therefore encourage you to help in your eontinued support in increasing our subscriptions and advertising in the coming year. We will also be improving our present format by covering sports events, fishing, legal concerns and traditional hula. In doing so, we weleome several new staff members to Ke Alahou: Wayne Wasl\burn, Nathan and Hillary Aipa and Raymond Duvaehelle. We a!so continue to invite our readers to" participate by sending in your comments, letters announcements to us. This coming year we hope to further increase our circulation to serve the j peoples from Niihau to Hawaii, the northwest coast of Canada, the west coast and east coa3t of America and our neighbors to the south Pacific. From the staff; of Ke Alahou we send our best wishes for a happy new year. E ho'opono, e akahele ka hele 'ana'o ka uka o Puna.
