Highlights From the F!lms of Ray t Jerpme Baker-1912-1935. Acomposite of Baker's motion pictures from the collection"of Robert E; Van Dyke and Gladys R. Van Dyke, will be shown on three evenings in late January and early February in the Academy Theatre as a benefit for the Honolulu Academy of Art's Annual Sustaining Fund. Accompanied by personal narrative by \ Robert Ē. Van Dyke, these diowings at 7:30 p.m. j on Tuesday, }anuary 29; Friday, February 1; and j Saturday, February 2 will be arare opportunity to view motion picture footage of Hawaii takfen by j one of Hawairs most renowned twentieth-century j photographers. His motion pictures of the funerals of Queen Liliuokalani in 1917 and of Prince 'Kuhiō Kalanianaole in 1922, the only records of their kind, are included in this program. Other topics included are: Native Life in Kona, 191215; Planting Rice at Pearl City, 1918; Queen Liliuokalanrs Last Birthday, September2, 1917; and Carl Sandburg at the University of Hawaii, 1932. Admission will be $3.00 ($2.50 for Academy members). The Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program at the Hawaii a Spring 1980 lecfure series on "Hawaii: Ecology of the Islands.- Dates and topics are listed in the Calendar of Events. All the lectures will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the foyer of the Waikiki Aquar-. ium, 2777 Kalakaua Avenue, Honolulu. They are op'en to the public and a $1.00 donation is req,uested. The Legacy of Pre-contact Hawaii. The Hawaiian Studies Program at Manoa is eelebrating the in.staUati.on of its director s Abraham Piianaia, and its office as a permanent part of the University of Hawaii with a Lecture Series and a special Symposium. The Legacy of Pre-Contact Hawaii will be examined by native Hawaiian scholars, kupuna and others drawn from the academic and larger community. See calendar for topics.
