Dr. Donald Kilolani Mitchell honored for 50 years of service at Kamehameha Schools

Donald Mitchell was 22 years olel, fresh out of college/ and in search of adventure, when he first arrived in' Honolulu aboard the ship Malolo in 1928. Ōver the years Mit'chell has distinguished himself as an author. lecturer, scientist and historian, touching the lives of thousands of people Hawaii. In tribute to his many contributions more than 200 friends, family members and former students joined in celebrating Mitchell's 74th birthday and his 50 years of servicetotheKamehamehaSchools, onJanuaryl3. The celebration included services at the Bishop Memorial Church where The Schools President Jack Darvill declared it Donald Dean Kilolani Mitchell Day; a tree planting eeremony on the slopes of Waonahele, a Hawaiian luneheon and the dramatic announeemen! that Mitchell hadbeen designated "A Living Treasure of Hawaii" by the Honpa Hongwangi Mission, in Honolulu.
