The Volunteers was established in April of this year to assist in registration of at least 30,000 Hawaiians and to help inform the public of the importance and significance of OHA. The Lieutenant Governor's office has issued a reminder to potential candidates for the OffiGe of Hawaiian Affairs Board of Trustees that the deadline for filing is September 5 th, As of July 15th, 17,923 people had registered to vote in the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Board of Trustees election. The first election of this ninemember Board of be held concurrently with the November 4th General Election. Voters must be of Hawaiian ancestry, residents of Hawaii, U.S. citizens, and 18 years of age on the day of the election. All people wishing to vote in the OHA election must register specially, even if they are already registered to vote in the Primary and General Elections.
