"Meet the OHA Candidates Evening" will be held on Oct. 22,1980, 6:30-9:30 p.m., at King Intermediate School Cafetorium in Kaneohe. The event is being cosponsored by Windward Community College Ho'olaulima Hawaiian Club and KEY project. The Hawaiiana Unit of the Department of Parks and Recreation announces two contests: The 32nd Annual Hawaiian Song Composing Contest and the 1981 Lei Queen Contest. The Song contest closescm Monday, February 16, 1981 at 12:00 noon. It is open \o all except employees of the Department of Parks and Recreation, City and County of Honolulu. Titles and words of songs must be written in Hawaiian. There are monetary awards: first place — $100.00, second — $75.00, third — $50.00 and fourth — $25.00. Other rules and information may be obtained by calling the Hawaiiana Unit (523-4631). The Annual Lei Day Celebration is in search of a Lei Queen and court. The Lei Queen must be knowledgeable in the art of lei making and be able to convey "lei aloha" with warmth and dignity. 1981 is the year of Na Kupuna so persons 45 years or older are eligible. One must also be of Hawaiian or part-Hawaiian ancestry, be knowledgeable in the Hawaiian language and be able to do the hula. The deadline for applications is Thursday, January 15, 1981.
