Lift Two Steel Towers 25 Feet

Lifting two 147-foot steel towers, eaeh weighing 28,000 pounds, 25 feet straight up into the air without disturbing the high tension wires they carrieci, was the hazardous engineering feat recentiy accomplished near Los Angeles. The work was necessary to provide sufficient clearance for a new bridge crossing under the wlres. Tt waa done during the morning ealm to avoid the possibility of a side wina toppling over the high steei structures, and special precautions were taken to insure that all four corners were lifted ,at exactly the sajne rate. ►•: _ • :
