He Moolelo no D. Kalino a me ke KANIKAU NO KONA MAKE ANA.

            Ua kulana a hiamoe aku la o D. Kalino iloko o ka moana kai lipolipo, kuho@ manaonao, i kauo alopeia aku la e @ nui o ka make, e moe kau, moe @ oko o ka opu piha ole o ka honua. 

            Ua hanauia o D. Kalino ma Niupaipai, Honolulu, Feberuari 9, 1850.  Ma ka makahiki 1865, komo oia i ke Kula Beritania ma Kahehuna, malalo o ke ao ana a Mr. Beckwith a me Kinney.  Ua paka lanakila mai oia mailoko mai o ia kula, a komo aku la ma ke Kula Kiekie o Kapanahou, ma ka makahiki 1869, ma ke alakai ana a Mr. Alekanedero.             Ua hanauia o Kawai ma Maumau, Hilo.  Ma ka makahiki 1842, hoohuiia wau me ia na ka berita mare.  Ma ka 1844, komo i ka ekalesia.  Nolaila, he 27 makahiki ko maua noho ana iloko o ka ekale@ia, @ moe aku la kela i ka hale koou o ka honua.

            I ke kakahiaka o ka la 29 o Aperile, hele maua i ke pani opae, a o ka hoomaka mai la no ia o ka eha ma ke kikala, a hoomanawanui no a po ia la, a i kekahi la ae, o ka hele e no ia a noho ma ka poli o ka mea Mana Loa, a haule iho nei au i ka hope waa, ua oki oe e nee hele ana e he manu hulu ole la.  Nolaila, ua haku iho makou i wahi mele kanikau no ua kane aloha nei a’u, a oia keia malalo iho:

            Hoomakaia na hana e like me ka mau.
