Marilyn Kahalewai has been a commercial and fine artist in Hawaii for 30 years. She has doneadvertisingart for department stores and advertising agencies, the Hawaii Visitors Bureau and worked forthe Kamehameha Schools. Among the things done for the Kamehameha Schools are the il!ustrations for Caroline Curtis'"Life in Old Hawaii." portraits of Kamehameha I as a young man, Liliuokalani. and Kekuhaupi'o. as well as the Ahupua'a

that is used in poster form by the 4th and 7th grades throughout the State. She also has done paintings for the Bishop Museum and for Kaumakapili Church. Cartooning is one of many facets of her artistic abi!ities. She has three children and fivegrandchildren who life on Molokai and Maui. Mrs. Kahalewai and her daughter, Kanoe Lum-Ho. own and operate a very small tee shirt company that speciali/es in designs that are genuinely Hawaiian.
