MEETINGS ON MOLOKAI Pearl Punahele OHA CRS. Molokai

Our Hawaiian community agencies and organizations have been busy, through inter-agency meetings, addressing these critical issues: ceded lands, entitlement, blood quantum, the Federal/State Task Force on DHHL and other issues affecting Hawaiians. Our preliminary meetings whieh were held with the staff of Alu Like here on Molokai have shown the results of improved inter-agency working relationships. The consensus gained from those meetings is that the leaders of these agencies: Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, Alu Like ine., Office of

Hawaiian Affairs, Queen Lili'uokalani Children's Center, Lunalilo Homes, Bishop Estate/Kamehameha Schools need to coordinate their efforts to better the conditions of Hawaiians. During the year of 1984, Hawaiians, it was agreed, should focus upon more political involvement and unity; that the blood quantum issue needs to be removed from existing laws as it divides the Hawaiian community; and lastly Hawaiian community leaders should dispense with "personality eonflicts" to work for the betterment of the entire Hawaiian community.
