Imi Hoʻola Plan for Minorities

Imi Ho'ola is a program at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine designed for men £ind women in the underrepresented ethnic groups who are seeking careers in the health field. The program especially encourages such minority ethnic groups as Hawaiians, Samoans, Filipinos and Micronesians to participate in its intensive one year, pre-professional training schedule. The program concentrates on the basic sciences, mathematics and English. There are also supportive services available , including tutoring, study skills assistance, counseling and help in locating financial aid. Thirty-five men and women have already become physicians as a result of the program. Currently, there are 39 enrolled in training. A similar announcement of the program in an earlier issue of Ka Wai Ola brought several enthusiastic responses and a number of these people are in the current training class. Full particulars about the program may be obtained by contacting Nanette Judd at telephones 948-7412 or 948-6590. Deadline for application is Apr. 1.
