Keiki Tahiti Fete Set for Mar. 19 Festival

The Third Annual Keiki Tahiti Fete, featuring talented tane and vahine ycjungsters ages 5 to 12 in a Tahitian dance competition, is scheduled Saturday, Mar. 19, in the St. Louis School Stephen McCabe Gymnasium located on the ChaminadeSt. Louis campus. Competition begins at 11 a. m. The program, however, actually gets underway at 10 a. m. with artisan displays and demonstrations on Tahitian and other Polynesian handicrafts on the mauka side of McCabe gym. The competition itself promises to be another exciting event of Ote'a (group) and Ori Tahiti (solo) stylings of traditional Tahitian dance. Several halaus have submitted entries. The program is another community effort by the not-for-profit Kalihi-Palama Culture and Arts Society ine., headed by Executive Director Wendell P. K. Silva who again will personally handle the event in his usual flawless style. Silva will also have the assistance of his own family — mother, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews — to handle such logistics as seating, taking care of guests, handling tickets, security and a myriad of other responsibilities. Volunteers such as Jan Yoneda and Jan Itagaki will again be on hand to assist the Silvas.
