Schedule Given for lnformational Meetings

Free informational meetings to provide on-site assistance and training in the preparation of proposals for federal grant money from the Administration for Native Americans (ANA) have been announced for Oahu, Kauai, Hawaii, Maui and Molokai by the American lndian Technical Service (AITS) whieh will provide this service. A total of $15 million in grant money is available to native Hawaiian and other native American nonprofit organizations during the current fiscal year ending in September. The grants will be awarded for activities in the following areas: • Eeonomie development. • Social and cultural projects. • Governance activities. • Aleohol and substance abuse prevention. • Youth entrepreneurship. • Enterprise zones. In cooperation with ANA and AITS, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs has arranged the following meeting schedule: Kauai — Saturday, Mar. 5, Wilcox School, 4319 Harding St., Lihue. Maui — Saturday, Mar. 12, Maui Electric Company auditorium, 210 West Kamehameha Ave., Kahului. Hawaii— Saturday, Mar. 19, at Hilo,Keaukaha School cafeteria, 240 Desha Ave .; Saturday, Apr.

9, at Kona, First Hawaiian Bank, 74-5593 Palani Rd. Oahu — Saturday, Apr. 16, Office of Hawaiian Affairs conference room, 1600 Kapiolani Blvd., Suite 1500. All meetings are scheduled for 10 a. m. to 11:30 a. m. The first meeting was held Feb. 6 on Molokai. Information to this effect did not reach Ka Wai Ola O OHA in time for inclusion in its February issue. ANA Commissioner William Engles in a recent letter stated that the purpose of this assistance is to "strengthen the capacity of eligible organizations to successfully apply for and receive funding from ANA. I want to encourage you to think about your community's goals and objectives and the ways in whieh ANA might be of assistance in strengthening your community's social and eeonomie development planning activities. We will make every effort to meet any reasonable request for training and technical assistance." Due dates for proposal submittals are Mar. 18 and May 20, 1988. Those organizations responding to the Mar. 18 date are encouraged to immediately eall 833-2301 on Oahu for assistance.
