Ka Himeni Ana Has July 22 Deadline

"Join us at Ka Himeni Ana 1988. You will enjoy the sweet, melodic singing of Hawaiian music in the old fashioned manner as it stirs happy memories of days past." This is the way founder, organizer and sponsor Richard M. Towill of Ka Himeni Ana puts it in a letter to friends and the interested public announcing the no amplification program Aug. 12 and 13 at 8 p. m. in Orvis Auditorium on the University of Hawai'i Manoa campus. It will be the sixth annual contest of old Hawaiian songs without microphones. Groups may contain neither less than two nor more than five singers and members may be any age. Only songs in the Hawaiian language composed prior to World War II are eligible. Registration deadline to enter the contest is July 22. Call Marge Hansen at 842-1133 for information and tickets whieh are $5. Because of limited seating, reservations are encouraged. Cash prizes in the amounts of $1,000 for first plaee, $600 for second, $400 third and $200 fourth will be awarded.
