Committee Announces Delegates for Aug. 14-17 Festival in Australia

Final selection of delegates attending the Fifth Festival of Pacific Arts Aug. 14-27 in Townsville, Australia, have been announced by the Hawai'i Organizing Committee whieh is beingcoordinated by the Kamehameha Schools at the request of Governor- John David Waihee III and the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. The entire performing arts group and all student interns are Kamehameha students. Chairman of the Hawaii delegation is Myron B. Thompson, a Bishop Estate trustee. Others and their assignments are Bob Worthington and Julee Abe, coordination; Momi Naughton, visual arts; Fong, performing arts; Russ Makanani, logistics; and Puanani Fernandez-Akamine, eommunieation/media. Others attending are the following artists and their haumana: Charlotte Leimakani Cathcart, Hawaiian quilting and featherwork. Dayna-Ann Mendonca, junior, Kane'ohe. Bill Char, floral lei making. Lynn Lastimado, junior, Honolulu. Moana Kalikookalani McPherson Eisele, skilled in a number of art forms, including kapa making, featherwork, floral lei making and hula implement making. The Festival of Pacific Arts, held every four years in a different country in the Pacific region, is sponsored by the South Pacific Commission, a regional body similar to the United Nations and headquartered in Noumea, New Caledonia. It was established in 1972 in an effort to perpetuate Pacific culture, tradition and arts. Locations of the other Festivals have been Suva, Fiji (1972); Papua New Guinea (1976); Rotorua, Aotearoa, New Zealand (1980); Pape'ete, Tahiti (1985).
