Evans, Kamaunu Bow to Hoʻikeʻike 1989

Sherry Evans and Lae Kamaunu of the Koolauloa Hawaiian Civic Club make up such a dynamic team like that of a famous eomie strip tandem that despite vowing to "never again," they succumbed to the request of the O'ahu District Council, Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, to again handle the 1989 Ho'ike'ike on Famiiy Sunday, Mar. 5, on the Bishop Museum's Great Lawn. Evans will onee more serve as general chairperson while Kamaunu will again prove her efficiency in coordinating the clubs, food and the Pepsi Cola booths. In their report at the Council's second quarterly meeting in Kaneohe, they noted that "although the crowd was smaller than in the previous years, the weather was balmy, the food ono, and crafts beautiful and the entertainment awesome." They paid special credit to Nake'u Awai "who did an outstanding job lining up little known trios to sing and entertain." They added in their report: "Hawaiian Hall was the perfect setting for Nola Nahulu and her choral groups; Tomi Chong brought in 14 commercial vendors; Jalna Keala and her Celebrity Box Luneh Auction established a record of its own; and Toni Lee had wonderful activities for the keikis." The third quarterly meeting of the Council is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, July 23 with Ali'i Pauahi as the principal host club.
