Floral Watercolors Show At Bishop Museum

The detailed and colorful botanical illustrations of Kaua'i artist Geraldine King Tam are the focal point of a new exhibition at Bishop Museum through February 22. Titled "Hawaiian Flora: Watercolors by Geraldine King Tam," the exhibition is on display in the Kahili Room. It features 33 of Tam's watercolors of Hawaiian flora, including such familiar island plants as kukui, plumeria, rose apple and 'ilima, and lesser known plants such as the 'akoko, beach naupaka, pukiawe and kolomona.

A native of Toronto, Canada, Tam has been a full-time resident of Kaua'i since 1980. She has worked as a printmaker, ceramic artist, andjewelry and textile desicner, but her chief interest is botanical illustration. She spent more than 25 summers painting the native wildflowers of isolated Monhegan Island, on the coastofMaine, andsince moving to Kaua'i has devoted all her time to painting Hawaiian flowers and plants.
