Workshops Offered On Elder Care

The Kokua Oouneil for Senior Citizens Education Fund is offering a series of free workshops for senior centers, clubs and community facilities through May 1989. The purpose of these workshops is to inform senior citizens about long term health care and its effects.

Workshops will be held during regularly scheduled club meetings for one to two hours. Eaeh will be developed according to the interests of club members. Possible formats might include keynote speakers, panel presentations by experts, films, small discussion groups, and question and answer periods. Groups will be offered a ehoiee from among the following topics: Medicaid, Medicare and long term illness; managing and protecting your assets; long term care insurance— what is covered; the "living will" and durable power of attorney; caring for your loved one at home; home services available to help relieve the stress of long term care; nursing and carehomes, and adult day care facilities; coping as a caregiver; legislation to ease the burden of long term illness; and international models of long term health care.
