High schools compete in hula kahiko

The Kalihi-Palama Culture and Arts Society ine. announces the 1990 Hawai'i Secondary Schools Hula Kahiko competition, Saturday, May 19, at St. Louis High School McCabe gymnasium. The competition will begin at 10 a.m. and will showcase over 300 dancers from 16 schools throughout O'ahu. The purpose of this competition is to provide the students of Hawaii's intermediate and high schools an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge of the Hawaiian

dance while fostering individual school pride and interscholastic spirit. New director of the Kalihi-Palama Culture and Arts Society is Jan M. Itagaki. She noted this year's event is made possible through the eolleetive efforts of KPCAS and a committee of representatives from seven public and private schools.
