Waipahu Park sets Festival May 12

To help educate the public, the younger generations and visitors alike, about Hawaii's rich plantation cultural heritage, Waipahu Cultural Garden Park will open its exhibit on Hawaii's plantation life entitled "Where Did We Come From?" on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Through artifacts, illustrations, and photos, the exhibit will trace and explore the varied experiences of Hawaii's early sugar plantation workers, featuring where they eame from, why they eame to Hawai'i, how they worked, how they lived and how they communicated. A free multicultural celebration will complement the opening of the exhibit. Several ethnic groups and organizations are setting up multiethnic displays, entertainment, and food and craft sales. Participating groups are: Na Wai Wai O Leeward, Ho Aloha Anuinui Hololio, The Leeward Kupuna (Hawaiian Studies Program), Camoes Players, Catholic Immigration Center, Cosmopolitan Senior Citizens Club, Hui O Laulima, Miss Takuan, Pamana Dancers, Pamana Singers, Puerto Rican Heritage Society of Hawai'i, UH Rondalla, Korean Dance Group, Tony Ramos Kajukembo, Hawai'i Chinese Cultural Service Center, Chinese Youth of Hawai'i, Waipahu High School Band, and the Menehune Marchers will start and finish a Waipahu walk at the park.
