Thirteen Native American tribes and organizations in nine states have been awarded $2.8 million in grants to address persistent health problems affecting their members. The grants from the Princeton, N.J.-based Robert Wood Johnson Foundation eall for recipients to incorporate traditional Indian cultural values into their health services. The new grant awards represent the third and final phase of funding under a three-year, $6 million initiaftive, "Improving the Health of Native Americans." The national program is believed to be the largest private commitment ever made directly to tribal governments, foundation officials said.
