Lei Queen contest open for applicants

Youthful vibrance is the eall for candidates of the 1992 Lei Queen Contest on Feb. 15. The category for the Queen in this year's eontest is the Na Wahine Opio, the younger woman (18-30 years.) Eaeh candidate must be of Hawaiian or partHawaiian ancestry, knowledgeable in the art of Hawaiian lei-making, have the ability to do the hula, and have some knowledge of the Hawaiian language. All contestants will compete at the Lei Queen Contest at McCoy Pavillion on Feb. 15. The Hawaiiana Section is accepting applieations until Jan. 24. The queen and her court will reign over the 65th Lei Day Festival, May 1, and also appear at various functions in the community.
