Kupuna ask kokua

Kupuna with Na Waiwai O' Leeward are seeking kokua to raise funds for an educational and cultural exchange with the Native American Indians and the Maya of Mexico. To defray costs of the trip the non-profit organization, affiliated with the Department of Education, will sponsor an Arts & Crafts Fair on May 9 at Thomas Square Park, Honolulu, and another in September at Ala Moana Beach Park.

Help is needed to organize and promote the two fairs. The kupuna would like to hear from sponsors, vendors and buyers. Single booths are $75 and shared booths $125. People with suggestions or referrals are asked to contact the group. Volunteers will be needed. To reserve a booth, volunteer, or obtain more information, eall Malia Morrow at 6898150.

Last year the kupuna visited the Maori of New Zealand, passed on their knowledge and received knowledge in return whieh they shared with Leeward students. Na Waiwai 0' Leeward is an educational and cultural organization whieh enhances the Hawaiian studies programs at Leeward schools and strengthens and preserves Hawaiian heritage.
