She is the founder of La Ea O Hawai'i Nei, a Hawaiian Sovereignty Oouneil, dedicated to the perpetuation of Hawaiian cultural traditions \ and the practices of Hawaiian indigenous \ inalienable rights. \ With her extensive knowledge and experience \ in Hawaiian issues, Kawehi is able to serve as an \ effective liaison to all cross-sections of the \ Hawaiian community. Equally important is \ Kawehi's understanding that bridges must be \ formed between fellow trustees and the \ government and private sectors to achieve \ and accomplish OHA's first intent of bettering the lives and conditions of the Hawaiian people.
