Piʻianāiʻa scholarship available for grad students

The University of Hawai'i Foundation has announced the Abraham Pi'ianāi'a Graduate Scholarship for Hawaiian and part-Hawaiian students pursuing graduate degrees in subjects included in Hawaiian studies in a non-professional curriculum. A graduate student selected on the basis of past achievements and future goals will be awarded $1,000, whieh will be applied to tuition for the fall 1993 and spring 1994 semesters. The deadline to apply is June 15. Pi'ianāi'a, a professor of geography at UH-Mānoa, founded the university's Hawaiian Studies program and is an officer of the OHA Education Foundation.

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in or accepted by a UH-Mānoa graduate program and must provide proof of Hawaiian ancestry. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, an official transcript of academic work, and a one-page statement of goals in the graduate program in relation to Hawaiian studies.
