Copies of tlhe OHA special tabloid "And the Earth Shall Rise: Ho'olāhui — To Rebuild a Natiōn," are available free to interested persons by contacting the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. The colorful four-page supplement addresses native Hawaiian rights and sets the basis for native Hawaiian claims for land and self-determination. It was published in January to coincide with the centennial of the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian nation in 1893. The document summarizes the history of the overthrow and explains the federal trust relationship with native Hawaiians. It also discusses the concept of "nation within a nation" sovereignty, the Native Hawaiian Claims Settlement Act, and proposed federal legislation to re-establish the native Hawaiian govemment.
