CBED conference coming to Oʻahu in October

The second annual Hawai'i conference on community-based eeonomie development, "Kūpa'a Ma Hope O Ka 'Āina, Stand Firmly Behind The Land," will be held October 1 1-12 at thc Hawaiian Regent Hotel in Honolulu. The conference is sponsored by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, the state Department ol Business, Eeonomie Development and Tourism, and Bank of Hawai'i in cooperation with the Hawai'i Allianee for Community Eeonomie Development. Conference registration is $125 per participant if postmarked by Sept. 27; registration is $ 175 after that. Additional participants from community-based organizations will receive a 40 percent discount. A limited number of scholarships, provided by Bank of America and Hawai'i Community Foundation, are available. The opening speaker will be Rebecca Adamson, a Native American and founder of First Nations Development Institute. She will speak on the importance of indigenous eeonomie systems and their appiication to CBED activities in an island setting. The conference includes a reception and marketplace sponsored by Alexander & Baldwin, ine. and First Hawaiian Bank, and featuring products and technologies developed by Hawai'i community-based organizations.
