Sounding the eall for action

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs is asking for your voice. On page 9 of this issue OHA is running an announcement urging Hawaiians to speak out against the injustice that was committed 100 years ago. On December 18, 1893, President Cleveland sent a message to Congress opposing the illegal overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawai'i. "By an act of war," he said in the message, "committed with the participation of a diplomatic representative of the United States and without the authority of Congress, the Government of a feeble but friendly and conflding people has been overthrown."

Now it is your turn to act. OHA is asking Hawaiians and non-Hawaiians alike to write and demand more from Congress. You ean start by sending in the form at the bottom of the announcement requesting a copy of Cleveland's message, more information about Hawaiian claims, or to schedule a speaker for your organization. A year ago Hawaiians marked the 100th anniversary of the overthrow with a cry for action. Let us begin the new year by responding to that eall.
