In the January issue of Ka Wai Ola we incorrectly reported that O'ahu homesteaders would not have to be paying property taxes after Jan. 1. The bill did . take effect the end of 1993 but the tax exemption begins on July 1, the start of the next fiseal year. In our January article on the conference of native healers at Lapakahi State Park, a line was inadvertently omitted from a poem composed in honor of the event by kupuna Katherine Maunakea. The second stanza should have read: "Ulu wehiwehi ka nani no ka pa ana mai. Ka makani o Kohala 'olu'olu ka puliki ana mai no ka lehulehu no o ka 'āina." Kupuna translates this to mean "With its splendor and beauty and the eool tradewinds swirling over Kohala, we did huddle together like they did for many generations on this land."
