Moloka'i Ka Hula Piko - A Celebration of the

Birth of Hula on Moloka'i is scheduled for May 20 at Pāpohaku Beach at Kaluako'i. There is no

admission charge.

The fifth annual festival will feature hula performances and music by performers from

Moloka'i and other islands. Hālau Hula O Kukunaokalā will again appear, as will a hālau from Japan in addition to other troupes. KCCN radio's Brickwood Galuteria will be the emeee. Hawaiian crafts and Hawaiian food including Moloka'i specialties will be served. Kumu hula John Kaimikaua of Hālau Hula O Kukunaokalā will present mo'olelo, lectures on Moloka'i

history, and walking tours during the preceeding week. The theme of this year's festival is "Moloka'i Pule O'o," whieh refers to the island's reputation for potent sorcery. The mo'olelo on these pages illustrates some of the tradition surrounding Moloka'i's "powerful prayer."
