"Family Laundry" play airs substance abuse concerns

The impact of aleohol abuse, and how a Hawaiian family copes with and survives its effects, is the subject of a new play, "Family Laundry," now being presented in special performances statewide in Hawaiian communities. The Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate Native Hawaiian Drug Free SchooIs and Communities program is sponsoring performances of this original musical comedy-drama, written and directed by Tremaine Tamayose. The cast members are all of Hawaiian ancestry. The play encourages people to learn more about ehemieal dependency and its impact on families, and to share their feelings and experiences with others in order to strengthen themselves, their families and their communities. Eaeh performance is followed by a discussion with a community response panel made up of kūpuna, parents and young adults. Performances this month conclude the interisland series.
