King Kamehameha Hula Competition set for June 23 - 24 at NBC Arena

The King Kamehameha Hula Competition, Hawai'i's oldest international hula contest, will host 23 hālau, including two from California and one from Japan. The competition will be held at the Neal Blaisdell Arena on June 23 starting at 6 p.m. and on June 24 starting at 1 p.m. It will also be aired on KGMB, Channel 9. Eaeh year, the 'auana division is based around a central theme. This year the competition honors flowers and eaeh hālau will perform a huia written for or about flowers. Awards will be presented for three categories of 'auana and four categories of kahiko. A new judging division will be added to both the kahiko and 'auana divisions; awards will be presented by * Ahahui 'Ōlelo Hawai'i. For more information eall 536-6540.
