Free lecture on Hawaiian language pioneers

The Hawaiian Histoncal Society will present a free lecture and slide show heralding "Forgotten Heroes of the Hawaiian Language" Oct. 3 from 7:45 to 9:30 p.m. at Bishop Museum's Atherton Hālau. Dr. Albert J. Schutz of the University of Hawai'i-Mānoa will discuss contributions to the Hawaiian language by such eighteenthand nineteenth-century scholars as 'Opukaha'ia, Sybil Bingham, Pierre Gaussin and Lorrin Andrews. Schutz is the author of The Voices of Eāen, A History of Hawaiian Language Studies. The book wiU be available at the leeture for purchase at a 20 percent discount.
