Position re-opening: Collection Care lntern

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs and Bishop Museum have re-opened their search for qualified applicants for a fulltime, one-year intemship. The intemship is designed to strengthen understanding between the Hawaiian community and staff of Bishop Museum in recognition of the inherent interest of Hawaiian people in the care and control of their spiritual and cultural property. The intern will work with several museum departments to become familiar with museum practices and procedures. They will also work with the conservation staff to learn the preservation requirements of individual objects and the steps whieh are taken to maintain collections. The internship also includes attendance at professional museum meetings and/or work study at a museum outside Hawai'i. A monthly stipend based on a $17,568/year salary, medical benefits and other museum privileges are provided. Applicants should have strong interest in Pacific culture and be able to demon-

strate prior community involvement. Applicants must also be willing to undertake directed and independent activities pertaining to museum practices. A eollege degree or comparable life/work experience is desired. The successful applicant must be able to travel and meet physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Funding sources require that the intem be able to provide documentation of at least 50 percent Hawaiian ancestry. H3 cuitural interpretation information meetings being held

Meetings to present the "Final Draft of the H-3 Preservation and Interpretation Plan" have been announced by the OHA committees on Land and Sovereignty and Education and Culture. Public informational meetings to present the plan are scheduled for 7-9 p.m. at Windward Community College on Feb. 7, and at Central Intermediate School on Feb. 8. Public comment and response to the

plan will be accepted by the committee at follow-up meetings scheduled for Feb. 14 at Windward Community College, and Feb. 15 at Central Intermediate School. Advance copies of the "Final Draft" are available at all OHA offices, and may also be obtained at the meetings.
