Lāʻau lapaʻau conference slated

Palama Settlement and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs are co-sponsoring a

free workshop on lā au lapa au Wednesday, April 17 at Pālama Settlement Hall. The workshop, whieh begins at 6:30 p.m. will be given by Keaukaha-based "Papa" Henry 'Auwae. 'Auwae was trained in the Hawaiian healing arts by his great grandparents and has studied and practiced traditional medicine for most of his life. He has treated and continues to treat people who seek alternatives to Western medicine. His patients

eome from Hawai'i and around the world. 'Auwae has been recognized, honored, and given many awards by community organizations, agencies and other groups for his work in healing, including the National Cancer Institute. He is presently the Po'okela (head) Kūpuna Lā'au Lapa'au O Hawai'i, a statewide organization of native Hawaiian healers.
