Pele dance drama on Kauaʻi

Holo Mai Pele, an epie dance drama, recounts the travels of Pele and her youngest sister, Hi'iakaikapohopele, from Kahiki to Hawai'i. Through dance and Hawaiian chant the story reveals the experiences of their travels. English narration helps to explain eaeh act. This dance drama is performed by I Iālau o Kekuhi, from Hilo, led |j| by the daughters of the late hula master, Edith Kanaka'ole Kanahele. This hālau has continued for over seven generations and is famous for their mastery of the 'aiha'a style of dance and their many styles of oli (chant.) Pualani Kanaka'ole Kanahele and Nalani Kanaka'ole lead more than 60 cast and crew. They lead the way through a five-act drama. All proceeds will go to benefit the Edith Kanaka'ole Foundation, a cultural

based organization that provides scholarships to students attending the University of Hawai'i at Elilo, the Hawai'i Community CoIlege and students for Masters/Students cultural workshops and study programs.
