Public invited to investiture of OHA trustees

The general pubhc is invited to the investiture of the OHA Board of Trustees on Friday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at Kawaiaha'o Church. Members of the OHA Board of Trustees will be formally invested with their duties of office in a eolorful investiture ceremony. The ceremony follows Hawaiian protocol and is attended by members of the Hawaiian royal societies, Hawaiian civic clubs and organizations. During the church service, trustees are addressed by kahu, and representatives of the 'ōpio (youth), mākua (adult) and kūpuna (elders) of the Hawaiian people, who charge the trustees with their responsibilities to serve the people. The chairperson of the OHA Board will speak to the assembly about the accomplishments and goals of the office. Then the trustees will receive their lei hulu (feather lei), symbolic of their'leadership positions. Refreshments will be served following the investiture.
