Alin (Pono) Ledford, Biolo£iy, Brigham Young University Hawai'i

After graduating from Castie High School in 1987, Pono Ledfbrd did a two-year Mormon mission in South America. His subsequent studies in Utah to heeome a certified medical technician were rewarding, but his yearning for Hawai'i brought him back home. Now a senior at BYU-Hawai'i, Pono is currentiy searching for new antibiotics in a research program and working toward a degree in biology with a minor in chemistry. He works part-time for a pediatrician who urged him to continue his education. With financial aid from Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate, Pono is nearly finished with his bachelor's degree and hopes to enter medieal school. If you are of Hawaiian descent, in a full-time college degree program and attending specified Hawai'i colleges, you may qualify for nearly $14 million in post-high school financial aid offered by KSBE.
