Nine Hawaiians recently graduated from Hālau Kāpih Hou's first Native Hawaiian Certified Nurses Aid (CNA), thanks to Alu Like ine., whieh assists Native Hawaiians, Native Americans and Alaska Natives living in Hawai'i with job training. "The graduates now have state certification, so they're very employable," said Hālau Kāpili Hou Coordinator Nathan Chang. "We have a waiting list of 55 people and hope to start a new class in the next few months. Becau.se we are Federally funded, we'ie not certain of the longevity of the program, and continue to look for community partnerships to help underwrite the significant training costs," Chang said. Of

the $1,100 tuition fee, Alu Like currently pays more than 90 percent. "The investment is immeasurable because you are helping people who will help others. What this does for improved self esteem is amazing."
