KSBE helps Paul fulfill
his educational aspirations. After watching his tūtū deal with hypertension, heart disease and diabetes, Paul Kaiwi (Hāna High '87) decided to become a doctor and entered Maui Community College (MCC) after a stint in the U.S. Army. There he found support from Lui Hokoana, MCC counselor and previous recipient of KSBE financial aid. Now this father of four is a second-year medical student at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, on his way to realizing his dream of returning to Hāna to help at-risk Hawaiians as a family practicioner.
